Why this domain existed in 1998

Before the rebuild, sodomy.org was a cited archive of U.S. state sodomy statutes. The new site keeps the desk and adds the rest of the word.

On January 28, 1998, this domain published “United States Sodomy Laws,” compilation v1.0 — a state-by-state sheet of penalties, related offences, and the odd note that consent was not a defense. Wikipedia editors used it. The Wayback Machine still has it.

The 2026 rebuild does not throw that job away. It refuses to leave the job unfinished: law plus history, culture, and health, with a tracker that looks past the U.S. water’s edge. If you arrived because a citation pointed at sodomy.org, you are in the right building. The lighting is better. The footnotes still count.

Occasional dispatches: a statute, a citation, a documentary, no penthouse ads. When the list exists, it will live here.
